The annual community roundup fundraiser and food drive raised well over $3,000 for the social services departments of both Durham and Middlefield, organizers said.
On Dec. 2, teams made up of students, teachers, parents and community members traveled on assigned routes in Durham and Middlefield collecting food and monetary donations to be distributed to the needy. The Coginchaug Regional High School bicycle club even rode bikes pulling a wagon.
The donations were sorted at CRHS. Each town received more than $1,600 in cash and gift cards along with some food. said school social worker Kathy Bottini on Dec. 4.
The bulk of the food goes to Amazing Grace food pantry in Middletown. Bottini said the drive brought in 14,642 food items, about 500 more than last year.
