Coginchaug college-bound student-athletes feted

Coginchaug Regional High School held a special event on Wednesday, April 11 – “The Signing.”

New athletic director Kory Kevorkian put the event together to recognize the Coginchaug senior athletes who are planning to continue their careers in college.

Out of over 7 million high school athletes in the country, only about 500,000 of those will go on to compete at the collegiate level.

Six members of the Coginchaug Class of 2018 will be among that select group.

Coginchaug’s college-bound athletes are: Kaitlin Gossart - Wheaton College, soccer; Anthony Curry - North Carolina Wesleyan College, football; Patrick Ladas - Springfield College, football; Virginia Benbow - Clark University, basketball; John John Jose - Mitchell College, baseball; and Ashley Dana - Central Connecticut State University, cross country and track.

Coginchaug principal Brian Falcone was in attendance at “The Signing,” as were the student-athletes’ families and more than two dozen others.

The school put out a nice spread, photos were snapped, and the student-athletes did mock signings, solidifying  their college of choice.

These six student-athletes have been at Coginchaug for nearly four full years now, and they certainly have left their mark.
