DURHAM — Durham recreation is looking to embrace the season by bringing the community together for some autumnal fun.
This year, residents can look forward to a S’mores Family Night on October 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Allyn Brook Park, the Fall Farmers Market on October 10, 17 and 24 and a Scarecrow Building Contest on October 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the town green.
“I think it's important to have events like this so residents can meet others in our town to not only create new friendships, but also bring old friends together out of our busy, everyday lives,” said Jon Scagnelli, market master. “It's hard to pick a single event I look forward to the most. The s'mores night I feel would be the winner because it's our first one and it will be a lot of fun for everyone.”
First Selectman Laura Francis said that events like these “creates a place to keep our families in Durham.”
“The creative aspect is attracting people of all ages and finding activities that are appealing to them,” she said. “We welcome feedback and are looking to explore more programming.”
