Durham student charged in suspicious social media post due in court this week

DURHAM — A juvenile charged with making a suspicious social media post referencing Coginchaug Regional High School is due to appear in court this week.

The juvenile male has been charged with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening for an Instagram post “referencing the Florida school shooter, Nicholas Cruz, and possible pending violence at Coginchaug High School,” state police said.

When questioned by state police at his home, the student admitted to making the post and “discussing plans for violence,” but said he  had no intention of causing anybody harm.

The student is scheduled to appear in Middletown Juvenile Court on Wednesday.
