NORTHFORD – The Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug hockey team had a weekend it would like to forget, dropping back-to-back games against Eastern CT and Branford on Friday and Saturday nights at the Northford Ice Pavilion.
Less than 24 hours after seeing their nine-game win streak end with a 6-4 Division III loss to the Eastern CT Eagles, the Trojans fell 6-3 to Division II Branford on Saturday night.
After this weekend, the Lyman Hall Co-op now stands at 12-5 on the season and sits fourth in the CIAC Division III rankings.
On Saturday night, Branford jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Two of the goals came just seconds apart at the 10-minute mark by Jack Manware.
The second period told a different story.
Scott Bradley scored the first Trojans goal of the night at 13:15 on a power play. Kyle Roberts followed notl ong after with a goal of his own to cut the Branford lead in half.
A major penalty on Branford’s Manware looked like the perfect opportunity for the Trojans to crawl their way even further back into the game. The Hornets, however, were able to hold off the Trojan attack at their gates for the full five minutes.
Bradley wasn’t going to give up that easily. At 13:25 in the third period, on the power play again, a bouncing puck off a rebound found its way onto Bradley’s stick and he buried it in the somewhat open net to cut the gap to 4-3.
Branford’s Zach Jones took a missile of a shot to make things 5-3. One more goal for Branford by Max Buton finalized the score at 6-3.
