State police investigating fatal Durham crash that involved stolen car

DURHAM — An 18-year-old from Hartford was killed when the stolen car he was a passenger in crashed on Wednesday.

Luiz Martinez was pronounced dead at Middlesex Hospital following the crash, which occurred near the intersection of Route 79 and South End Avenue at about 3:30 a.m., state police said. It was not immediately clear if the driver, who has not been identified, was injured.

The car was reported stolen from a home in Madison. Before the crash, the driver led Madison police on a pursuit, which officers ended prior to the crash, state police said.

Martinez was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over. A state police accident reconstruction team responded to investigate.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Trooper First Class Albert Gorski at 203-630-5639 or at albert.gorski@ct.gov.
