Wallingford farm reveals theme of annual Christmas display

WALLINGFORD — For fans of the annual Christmas-themed display at Beaumont Farms, the wait is over. Farm owner Billy Beaumont began putting up this year’s exhibit on Friday and revealed the movie theme — the 1970 animated movie “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town.”

Beaumont said the display will include nine characters and six scenes from the movie. In “Santa Claus Is Comin to Town,” a mailman narrates the story of how an orphan grew up to become Santa Claus, triumphing over the movie’s villian, Burgermeister Meisterburger.

Beaumont said the tradition of paying tribute to classic Christmas movies at his farm, at 945 E. Center St., goes back around 15 years. Last year, Beaumont created a display depicting scenes from “Christmas Vacation” and in 2015 he featured the Disney animated movie “Frozen.”

Beaumont chose “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” because “it just seemed like the next one to do.”

On Friday, Beaumont was busy towing a 1931 Chevrolet vehicle that represents the North Pole mail truck used by the mailman.

Beaumont said he likes making a display every year because “it makes a lot of people happy” and “makes a lot of kids smile.”

“There’s nothing much better than a smile on a kid’s face,” he said.

“It’s just something different,” Beaumont’s employee Justin Tomaszewski said about why people look forward to the annual displays.

Beaumont expected to finish the display over the weekend.
