WALLINGFORD — The Elks Lodge presented the police department with a $2,000 grant this week.

Elks Lodge #1365 applied for a grant with the National Elk Lodge in November 2017 and contacted Police Chief William Wright when they won the grant in late December.

“We thought if we could do our part in helping the police department, we could help the community as well,” Elks Lodge Exalted Leader Julie Goode said. “We’re just thrilled that we can help out… that’s what we’re all about.”

Since the grant was for drug awareness, Goode thought the police department could use it for new equipment for the narcotics division. The Town Council still has to approve the donation.

“We’re grateful to the Elks Lodge for thinking of (us),” Wright said. He said the funds would be used to purchase equipment for undercover narcotics investigations.

Goode said donating to the police department was especially exciting for her, as her husband Stanely retired after more than 32 years of service with the department.
