Police: Man charged with DUI after stopping at McDonald’s drive-through

WALLINGFORD — A Meriden man faces a DUI charge after police said a McDonald’s employee reported an intoxicated driver in the drive-through lane Saturday night.

Erik Gonzalez, 39, of 74 Birchwood Dr., South Meriden, was also charged with drinking while driving.

An employee at McDonald’s, 608 N. Colony Rd., reported a driver in the drive-through lane appeared intoxicated around 10:25 p.m., according to police reports. Officers found the driver, identified as Gonzalez, sitting in the driver seat of a Honda Accord and waiting for his food. Officers also saw Gonzalez try to hide a 22 ounce bottle of beer, the report said.

Gonzalez had an odor of alcohol on his breath and was slurring his speech. He did not perform the field sobriety tests to standard and was taken into custody, the report said. He was released on $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 21.
