WALLINGFORD — A Watertown man faces charges after police said he was driving under the influence while using his cell phone earlier this month.
Steven Rubbo, 48, of 27 Pondview Dr., Watertown, was charged Aug. 3 with driving under the influence, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and cell phone violation. He was released on $1,000 bond.
On Aug. 3 around 9 a.m. officers participating in a distracted driving enforcement campaign saw Rubbo using his cell phone while approaching the intersection of Cook Hill Road and Tuttle Avenue, according to police reports.
The officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed the car had an odor of marijuana, the report said. Police searched the car and found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Rubbo did not perform field sobriety tests to standard and was taken into custody.
