Wallingford police: Man charged with DUI had cocaine, marijuana

WALLINGFORD — An East Haven man faces DUI and drug charges after police said he was found asleep behind the wheel of a car.

Shaun Jarrett, 38, of 124 Frank St., East Haven, was charged Sunday with driving under the influence, drinking while driving, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Sunday around 2:29 a.m. police responded to the area of Durham Road at Christian Street for a report of a driver asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle. Officers found Jarrett, asleep with a partially consumed beer in the cup holder, according to a police report.

Jarrett failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, the report noted. Police searched the car and found about four ounces of marijuana and about eight grams of cocaine, the report stated.

Jarrett was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 26.
