Man charged with assault at Smash Burger in Wallingford

WALLINGFORD — A local man faces charges after police said he assaulted employees at Smash Burger on Tuesday.

Patrick King, 30, of 9 Zinnia Court, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree breach of peace, and third-degree assault.

Police responded to Smash Burger, 1094 N. Colony Road, around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a man fighting with employees. A woman reported the incident began when she and King argued outside the business before she went inside to work her shift, according to a police report.

King came into the building yelling, went into the kitchen area and ended up fighting with an employee, the report said. Other employees got King out of the building, but he returned and fought with other employees.

The woman’s child was present at the time of the incident. The Wallingford fire department responded to treat the injured employees, the report said.

King was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Wednesday. The judge barred King from any contact with the woman or her children and released him on a promise to appear in court on April 11.
