WALLINGFORD — A Shelton man faces charges after police said he crashed into a light pole and drove off.

Steven Nigretti, 38, of 50 Ojibwa Road, Shelton, was charged Tuesday with evading responsibility and unsafe backing.

Police responded to Quinnipiac Street about 3 p.m. and discovered Nigretti was involved in an accident and knocked over a light pole, according to a police report. Nigretti left without notifying police.

He was taken into custody, released on $2,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on July 2.
