WALLINGFORD — A local man struck by a car while crossing Route 5 Saturday has been released from the hospital.

Thomas Voytek, 58, of Wallingford, suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by a Honda Civic driven by Jose Diaz, 29, of Meriden, about 5 p.m. Saturday, Officer Christian Evans said. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital and released Sunday after being treated for a severe head laceration, broken ribs, and leg injuries. The incident occurred near Center Street.

Diaz suffered a minor hand injury, but declined medical treatment.

Voytek, who was running slowly across the road near a crosswalk when he was struck, did not use the pedestrian crossing signal, Evans said. He was issued an infraction for reckless use of a highway by a pedestrian.
