WALLINGFORD — A local man faces a DUI charge after police said they saw him driving erratically on North Turnpike Road.

Gary Paradise, 72, of 43 Lynn Drive, was charged Wednesday with driving under the influence and traveling in improper lane.

An officer saw a car traveling on North Turnpike Road at a slow speed swerve from the curb to the double yellow lines at around 11 a.m., according to a police report.

Police stopped the car and spoke with Paradise. He reportedly had an odor of alcohol on his breath and said he drank 24 beers the previous day, the report said.

Paradise failed field sobriety tests, was taken into custody and later released on $2,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 22.
