Wallingford man faces DUI, weapon, drug charges

WALLINGFORD — A local man faces charges after police said he was driving under the influence and was found with a BB gun in the car.

Craig Vanlinter, 45, of 32 Highland Ave., was charged Thursday with driving under the influence, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper headlights.

An officer pulled Vanlinter over around 10:35 p.m. after noticing he was driving erratically with one headlight out, according to a police report.

Vanlinter had an odor of alcohol on his breath and there was an odor of marijuana coming from the Jeep, the report said. Police searched Vanlinter and the vehicle and found a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a Smith and Wesson MP .40 BB gun/pistol.

Vanlinter did not perform field sobriety tests to standard and was taken into custody. He was released on $2,500 bond.
