Police: Wallingford man, hit and choked woman

WALLINGFORD — A local man faces charges after police said he struck a woman and choked her.

Louis Morales, 38, of 527 5th Ridge Road was charged Wednesday with second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

On Wednesday around 5:40 p.m. a woman reported Morales struck her twice in the face while they were in a car the night before, causing bruises and a cut on her lip. The next morning Morales started arguing with her, grabbed her by the throat and lifted her off the ground by the neck, according to a police report. Police noticed visible injuries on the woman’s face.

Morales was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. The judge set bond at $1,500 and entered a protective order barring Morales from all contact with the woman. The case was continued to March 8.
