Police: Wallingford woman charged with DUI had 3-year-old in car

WALLINGFORD — A local woman faces charges after police said she drove under the influence with a 3-year-old in the vehicle.

Karin Kossack, 41, of 231 S. Orchard St., was charged Saturday with driving under the influence and risk of injury to a minor.

On Saturday around 2 p.m. a driver reported witnessing another driver sleeping behind the wheel of a stopped vehicle at the intersection of Ward Street and South Colony Road, said police spokeswoman Lt. Cheryl Bradley.

When another person went up to the vehicle to check on the driver, later identified as Kossack, she made an obscene gesture at the person, Bradley said. The driver who called police followed Kossack as she drove away.

Officers found Kossack getting out of her vehicle in the driveway of her home, and noticed she was stumbling and almost fell, Bradley stated. A 3-year-old also got out of the car.

Kossack failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

She was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 26.
