WALLINGFORD — Pond Hill Road is closed after a tractor trailer veered off Interstate 91 and came to rest blocking the roadway.
State police say the vehicle was traveling north when it exited the right side of the highway shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday. After leaving the roadway it went through the woods and struck the foundation of the opposite side of the Pond Hill Road overpass foundation.
The driver was transported to Yale-New Haven hospital, according to the Wallingford Fire Department. The injuries did not appear to be severe.
Pond Hill Road will likely remain closed for an extensive period of time while the vehicle is removed and damage to utility poles is repaired, according to the fire department. United Illuminating was dispatched to shut down the power lines and some residents will be without power while repairs are made.
