Couple displaced after Monday night house fire on Cedar Street in Wallingford

WALLINGFORD — The fire marshal is investigating Monday’s house fire on Cedar Street.

A couple was displaced by the fire, which started about 4:45 p.m. Fire Marshal Michael Gudelski said single-digit temperatures and sub-zero wind chills posed a challenge to firefighters.

Flames were seen piercing the roof of the house, which officials said has heavy damage and is uninhabitable. Utilities were cut inside the home and investigators have not yet determined a cause. No injuries were reported.

Gudelski said the couple is staying at a local hotel with their pets. The house will require extensive repairs before they can return.

Red Cross spokeswoman Lauren Lindsay said the organization has provided the couple with comfort kits containing personal care items, including toothbrushes, deodorant and shaving supplies.

“Those affected will connect with Red Cross caseworkers in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan,” Lindsay said.
