WALLINGFORD — Elements of fantasy, darkness and horror are part of the “vibe” at Casanova Ink Tattoo shop and art gallery.
John Casanova, co-owner, said in addition to tattoos, the shop sells art pieces, hookah and vape kits at the 775 N. Colony Road (Route 5) location.
Casanova said the shop, which opened Aug. 27 in a small plaza just south of Beaumont Road, already has three weeks worth of bookings.
“Everything is going good,” Casanova said. “We’ve booked 30 or 40 appointments. Our artist is well known.”
Casanova said he decided to open the shop with artist Anthony Plaza one year ago. Casanova said he first met Plaza 20 years ago.
“We’ve been friends for years,” Casanova said. “We decided to open [a tattoo shop] together because he’s good at the art and I’m good at the business.”
Plaza has been a tattoo artist for 21 years. He said he enjoys tattooing iconic film stars, horror movies, comic books and video game characters.
“I’m very particular about a certain vibe,” Plaza said.
Casanova said many of the appointments came from the pre-booking party on August 25.
“We’re fortunate that we both know a lot of people,” Plaza said. “I managed to build clientele and following on Instagram.”
Casanova said they have talked about opening a shop together for a couple of years but said finding a location for a the shop was challenging. He said it was difficult because of the stigma of tattoo shops.
“We had to go through a lot of hoops to find the right town,” Casanova said.
Casanova Ink is open Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. except Wednesday when the shop is open only for private bookings.
