WALLINGFORD — A new farm and garden store is slated to open in November on Route 5.
The building for Tractor Supply Co., at 801 N. Colony Road, is more than 80 percent completed, said Matthew Darling, vice president at New England Retail Properties.
The store will be about 19,000 square feet, with 81 parking spaces, a truck delivery area and a 15,000-square-foot outdoor sales area.
Darling said Friday that Tractor Supply is his only property in Wallingford so far.
The site is at the intersection of North Colony Road (Route 5) and Beaumont Road, between Walmart and the restaurant Rick’s on 5.
“The appeal was the high traffic volume on Route 5,” Darling said, “and the pull from Cheshire and Durham.”
Tractor Supply appeals to the “gentleman farmer,” he said, “the small farmer or homeowner who doesn’t want to go to a big box store.”
The store sells products for home improvement, agriculture, lawn and garden maintenance, and livestock, equine and pet care. It has about 1,700 locations in 49 states, including 10 in Connecticut.
Coastland Enterprises, a Middlefield-based site development firm, is the site contractor.
Coastland owner Steve McLarty said his machines are hooked up to a GPS system that helps guide the operator to blueprint building specifications.
“It’ll be a nice store,” McLarty said. “People are looking forward to it. A lot of people come by and ask, ‘when is it opening,’ because it is the stuff that everybody needs for their homes.”
