WALLINGFORD — The Board of Education appointed Angela Buccheri, an elementary school teacher and district literacy coach, to the position of PreK-5 humanities curriculum coordinator last week.

Buccheri started in Wallingford in 2004 as as a first grade teacher at Mary G. Fritz Elementary School, according to a statement from the school district announcing the staffing change.

She taught fourth grade at Rock Hill School before becoming an interventionist at Highland School in 2013. Most recently, she has served as a K-2 district literacy coach since 2015.

In addition to her elementary experience, Bucccheri holds certifications in reading language arts and school administration.

Taking on multiple leadership roles, she has been a co-presenter at the CT Librarian's Annual Conference in 2017, CT Reading Association's Annual Reading Conference in 2008 and 2009 along with designing and facilitating Curriculum Nights, Family Literacy Workshops and Home Reading Coffee Hours.

In a statement Thursday, Danielle Bellizzi, assistant superintendent for personnel, said Buccheri's “positive energy, enthusiasm for helping students and teachers learn, and commitment to including families as partners in their child's education will make her an outstanding leader in her new role.”

Buccheri is scheduled to begin work Aug. 8 at a salary of $124,096.
