WALLINGFORD — Members of the police department have been growing facial hair to raise awareness for cancer research and education. No Shave November came to an end last week with the department nearly doubling its original fundraising goal.
Each officer donated a minimum of $50 to grow facial hair, Sgt. James Cifarelli said. Officers usually must be clean shaven with minor exceptions.
The department raised about $6,000 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Clorectal Cancer and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
On Friday, officers went to Dino’s Modern Barbershop, 202 Center St., for a clean shave. The business donated its time.
Anyone wishing to donate can visit no-shave.org/WallingfordPoliceDepartment . Donations can be anonymous and cash donations are accepted at the front desk at Police Headquarters.
