WALLINGFORD — A new Valero gas station and convenience store opened Friday on North Turnpike Road and owner AJ Jalil said he hopes to open the adjoining restaurant “Wing It On!” in the next few weeks.

Behind the four fuel pumping stations at 68 N. Turnpike Road (Route 150), the convenience store will be to the left side of the building and the restaurant to the right.

Wing It On! will offer about two dozen flavors of wings, a variety of chicken sandwiches, and a small variety of sides for to-go and dine-in customers. There will also be delivery service and the option to order online.

Jalil, who owns a second service station in Plainville, said he was looking for a food option to accompany the convenience store and learned of Wing It On!’s success in other location.

He said he acquired the property, previously a gas station, last October and was able to start renovating in February.

“Everything is new construction,” Jalil said. “I try my best for customers.”

“We are looking forward to launching our new Wings ‘N Wiches menu here in Wallingford,” said Matt Ensero, CEO of Wing It On! franchising in a statement. “We feel it’s important for the name Wing It On! to be synonymous with the best tasting wings and fried chicken sandwiches in the fast casual game.”

The North Turnpike location will be the first to introduce the restaurant chain’s new menu, which will focus on what they feel they do best: chicken and wings. The menu will also cater more to on the go customers.

“We’re just finding more and more people are on the go… we’ll be kind of under one roof. Both (the store and restaurant) will be able to play off the other,” Ensero said.

Wing It On! was founded in 2011, with its first location in Waterbury. It has several locations in Connecticut and New Hampshire and plans to expand in New Jersey.
