Wallingford man arrested for DUI after car fire

WALLINGFORD — A 21-year-old Wallingford man was arrested for driving under the influence Friday night after rear-ending a truck. The car became wedged under the truck and was dragged about 500 feet before catching fire.

Carlos Lopez, of 44 Church St. Floor 2, was charged with DUI, having no insurance and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said Sunday.

Authorities were dispatched around 11 p.m. to the area of 7 N. Turnpike Road, near River Road.

Police said Lopez drove a BMW that struck a Chevy Silverado from behind. The BMW got wedged under the truck and was dragged about 500 feet before catching fire.

The truck’s two occupants did not report any injuries. The truck sustained some damage from the fire, police said.

Lopez was released on $1,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 6.
