LETTERS: End of the Burghardt era at Lyman Hall High School

End of an era

Editor:

Monday will signify the end of an era at Lyman Hall High School. Chuck Burghardt will not be at the helm of the Trojan nine this spring for the first time in 25 years. Over the years, Coach Burghardt has helped a myriad of young men learn about the game of baseball (and the game of life) through discipline, hard work, and simply doing things the right way.

Under Coach Burghardt, the LHHS baseball team was the co-champions of the SCC Housatonic division in 1997 and Connecticut class L state champions in 2002. He has guided student-athletes on their way to playing baseball at DI schools such as Quinnipiac, Vermont, Old Dominion, as well countless other junior colleges and DII/DIII schools. Over the last few years, Coach Burghardt has been inducted into the Wallingford Twilight League Hall of Fame and the Southern CT Diamond Club Hall of Fame for his loyalty to the game of baseball, Lyman Hall High School, and mostly to his players.

I wish the new LHHS baseball head coach Billy Rich the best of luck. I hope that he can have as much of an impact on his players as Coach Burghardt did.
