MONDAY BOYS SWIMMING: Cheshire takes opener; frosh is fine in debut for Sheehan

CHESHIRE — Sam Hanke, Joe Cannata and Ben Brewer were double-winners for the Cheshire boys swimming and diving team in a 95-69 season-opening win over Foran on Monday night at the Cheshire Community Pool.

The trio also joined forces on two first-place relays.

Hanke won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.2 and the 100 backstroke in 57.16. Brewer collected gold in the 200 IM (2:00.73) and 100 butterfly (54.64). Cannata was first in the 50 (23.18) and 100 free (50.84).

Also for Cheshire, Richmond Le won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.69).

The Rams swept the relays. Hanke, Brewer, Cannata combined with Evan Levine on the 200 free (1:35.94) and with Justin Finkel on the 400 free (3:33.5).

Ethan Fielding, Harrison Hua, Ankit Sahasrabudhe and Levine won the 200 medley (1:52.77).

Notre Dame-West Haven 99, Sheehan 82: Freshman Joey Zellner opened his varsity swimming career with a pair of individual wins for the Titans in a SCC crossover contest at Albertus Magnus College.

Zellner nabbed first in the 100 free (52.54) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.54). 

Sheehan also claimed two relays. Zeller swam the final leg in the victorious 400 free relay started by his brother R.J., who was followed by Aaron Gamble and Adam DiDomenico. Their time was 3:51.16.

Alex Booman, J.D. Conte, Robert Sweet and Richard Zellner won the 200 free relay in 1:42.42.
