CIAC BOYS BASKETBALL: New London chases Cheshire; Southington-North Haven bumps to Thursday; Wilcox gets No. 14 Griswold

NEW LONDON — Cheshire’s boys basketball season came to a close Tuesday night with a 54-42 loss to New London in the first round of the CIAC Division II Tournament.

The No. 23 Rams closed out at 11-11. New London, the No. 10 seed, improved to 15-6 and advances to play No. 7 New Britain in Thursday’s second round.  

Aidan Godfrey scored a team-high 10 points for Cheshire. Matt Rosadino added nine.

Division III: The second-round game between No. 7 Southington and No. 10 North Haven has been postponed by Wednesday’s imminent snow storm to Thursday night.

Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Southington High School.

The Blue Knights (16-7) are coming off a 56-52 overtime win over No. 26 Berlin in the first round. North Haven (13-9) routed No. 23 Woodstock Academy 91-53 in its first-round game.

Division IV: No. 3 Wilcox Tech returned to practice Tuesday after its CTC championship game loss to Prince Tech and, by the end of the night, learned its first-round state opponent.

The Indians (20-3) will host No. 14 Griswold (13-8) on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Wolverines beat ECC rival Bacon Academy, the No. 19 seed, 72-55 in Tuesday’s first round.
