SCHOLASTICS FRIDAY: Salamone’s hat trick fuels Cheshire field hockey



CHESHIRE — A hat trick from Olivia Salamone and single goals from four other players catapulted the Cheshire field hockey team to a 7-0 SCC rout of Shelton in the season opener for both teams Friday at Alumni Field.

Along with scoring three goals, Salamone assisted on two others.

Kayla Sansone, Megan Daly, Meaghan Hogan and Briana Floyd had the single goals.

Annie Eddy, Megan Crowley and Mikayla Crowley were the play-makers with one assist apiece.

Lexie Hemstock opened her second season in net with a two-save shutout.

Branford 3, Lyman Hall 0: Alivia Celentano and K.K. Nolan had strong games for the Trojans in this SCC contest in Wallingford.

Molly Zaffino scored twice and Carly Shea chipped in with a single score for Branford.

Maddie Torre was in the net for LH and Gianna Messina made three stops in the shutout for the Hornets.

It was the season debut for both squads.

Cross Country

Sheehan: Sydney Carim (14th, 21:24) and Arianna Amodio (19th, 21:35) medalled for the girls squad and Derek Arnold was 13th for the boys (17:17) at the Blue Dragon Invitational in Middletown.
