WOODBRIDGE — Denys Fuentes took the art of buzzer beating to new and dramatic heights Tuesday.
The Cheshire senior knocked home the game-winning goal as time expired to give the Rams a 2-1 SCC soccer victory over rival Amity.
Fuentes also had the first goal for the Rams. Chris Likorama set Fuentes up on that one. Jack Loura had the assist on the winner.
The victory was Cheshire’s second straight 2-1 decision on the young season. The Rams (2-0) will be at Jonathan Law on Friday.
Maloney 3, Bulkeley 1: Zechariah Smith tallied a hat trick for the Spartans in the first of two CCC crossover contests Tuesday at Falcon Field. Angel Delgado added an assist for Maloney (1-1) and Spartans’ keeper Devin Juan made six saves in net. Jason Sangster scored for the Bulldogs (0-2) as the visitors took a 1-0 lead.
Platt 2, Bloomfield 0: Elian Nava and Casey Rintharamy both scored for the Panthers in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Falcon Field. Nava scored in the first half. Rintharamy found the back of the net in the final eight minutes. Josaih McLeish collected the shutout with five saves. Melvin Hernandez also performed well on defense for Platt, which improved to 1-1. Bloomfield is 0-2.
Wilcox Tech 1, Windham Tech 1: The Indians and Beavers played to the CTC draw in Meriden. Giovanny Solis scored an unassisted goal for Wilcox. Sebastian Dominguez collected eight saves in net. The Tribe is now 0-1-1.
Sheehan 4, Career/Hillhouse 0: Noah Becker bagged a hat trick for the Titans, who evened their mark at 1-1 with the SCC crossover shutout at New Haven’s East Shore Park. Becker scored twice on the first half off assists from Matt Marquis and Travis Christopher. He completed his hat trick with a penalty kick in the second half. The Titans also got a goal from Alberto Avila, which was set up by Micah Lee. Gabe Wells notched four saves in the shutout.
East Hartford 4, Southington 0: Emmanuel Ofori’s two goals and one assist led the Hornets (2-0) over the Blue Knights (1-1) in East Hartford.Girls soccer
Lyman Hall 7, Career/Hillhouse 1: The Trojans got goals from six different players in downing the Panthers in a SCC crossover in New Haven. Shianna Reeves led the way with two tallies. Senior captain Jordan Smith notched her first career goal. LH also got goals from Ally Carbutti, Callie Casulla, Emma Jacobs and Adrianna Viniczay in evening their record at 1-1. Brianna Nugent and Marrisa Newman combined for one save in net.
Sheehan 0, Sacred Heart Academy 0: Anna Medici and Beth Arnold combined for a shutout for the Titans in a SCC interdivisional stalemate in Hamden. Sharks goalie Ava King was good for seven saves. Both teams are 1-0-1.
Southington 3, RHAM 0: The Blue Knights jumped to 2-0, riding two goals from Shannon Litchfield in this CCC crossover in Southington. Jessica Carr got the home team on the board off an assist from Maya Wroblewski. Litchfield got her first goal before halftime assisted by Abby Sowa and her second after the break off a feed from Allison Carr. Emily Eigo earned the shutout with four saves.
Guilford 1, Cheshire 0: Olivia McMahon’s goal with 8:20 left in the first half stood as the game-winner in this SCC matchup in Cheshire. The Rams are 1-1, Guilford 2-0.Girls swimming
Southington 97, East Catholic 88: Andie Nadeau and Meghan Hammarlund each won two individual events and swam on two victorious relays in a CCC contest at Trinity College. Nadeau won the 200 freestyle (2:02.65) and the 500 free (5:31.18). Hammarlund touched the wall first in the 200 IM (2:21.64) and 100 butterfly (1:05.27). Southington’s Sarah Meade was best in the 100 backstroke (1:09.26). The Blue Knights swept the three relays:
■Meade, Maddie Symecko, Hammarlund and Gianna Perugini the 200 medley (1:58.95);■Meade, Perugini, Emma Jekubovich and Nadeau the 200 free (1:47.02);■Hammarlund, Jekubovich, Symecko and Nadeau the 400 free (3:58.05).
