Reno Men advance in Twilight playoffs

WALLINGFORD — Total Renovations defeated the Black Sox 5-4 on Wednesday night at West Side Field to advance to the Wallingford Twilight Baseball League semifinals.

In a back-and-forth game that saw four lead changes, Total Renovations plated the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth after trailing 4-3.

Scott Iwaniec sparked the rally with a leadoff double to left. Andrew DeClement blooped a singled and Brandon Hernandez reached on an error to load the bases for Wink Farrow, who delivered a two-run single to put Total Renovations up 5-4.

The Black Sox limited the damage with a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play, but could not crack Total Renovations reliever Jon Walter in the seventh. Walter struck out two of the four batters he faced and induced a pop-up to end it.

Earlier, the Black Sox took a 2-0 lead on John Flipp’s two-run single in the top of the first inning.

Total Renovations got one run back in its first at-bat on singles by Collin Hajjar and Matt Croteau, then took the lead on Matt Moran’s two-run double down the right field line in the third.

The Black Sox reclaimed the lead in the sixth before Total Renovations answered in the bottom half.

Total Renovations will face Diamond Zone of North Haven in the semifinals starting Sunday at Pat Wall Field.
