AROUND THE HORN: Meriden’s Roussin tabbed for CT Softball Hall of Fame; Destefano takes another Fun Run; weekly Tradition GC results

MILFORD — Meriden’s Tim Roussin will be among the honorees when USA Softball of Connecticut inuducts its Hall of Fame Class of 2019 in October.

Roussin, both a player and a coach, is going into the Hall of Fame’s Slow Pitch wing on Sunday, Oct. 13 in a ceremony at Costa Azzurra Restaurant in Milford.

He’ll be joined by Jeb Backus of Westport, Joe Keenan of Ansonia, Deborah Frouge of Bethany, Dave Manente of Seymour and Glen Cantin of Thomaston.

This year’s Fast Pitch inductees are Ken Bruno of Stratford, Ken Coviello of Waterbury, Denise Denis of Trumbull, Bob Domkowski of Milford, Wister Falcon of Stratford, Hirsh Freeman of Oakville, John Griskewicz of Bloomfield, Ron Vargas of Danielson and Bob Wilcox of Milford. That group will be inducted Saturday, Oct. 12, also at Costa Azzurra.

Both affairs open with a social hour at 4 p.m. Dinner follows at 5 p.m.

Dinner tickets are $55 per person. Tables of 10 are available. Tickets must be requested by Oct. 2. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Fun Run: Destefano sets a hot pace

MERIDEN — Derek Destefano beat the heat and the field in this week’s Meriden Fun Run series race at Platt High School.

The one-time Platt runner and current Maloney cross country coach turned in a three-mile time of 18:16 on Wednesday evening.

Ben Neumon was second at 22:10. Sean Haight placed third at 24:34.

The next Fun Run is Wednesday, July 24. Start time is 6:30 p.m. at the Platt track.

Traditions league posts weekly rounds

WALLINGFORD — Nacy DeVlyder’s gross 44 and Katie Hosfelt’s net 34 were the low scores in Flight 1 in this week’s Wednesday Ladies Golf League action at Tradition-Wallingford.

Flight 2 winners were Gail Barry (gross 53) and Linda Fronte (net 33). Nancy Smith (gross 51) and Linda Hofbauer (net 30) captured Flight 3.
