MERIDEN — Jake Donlon earned the city’s first Class LL cut of the boys swim season on Friday and, in the process, led the Meriden Co-op to a 97-84 CCC crossover victory over Rocky Hill at the Platt pool.
Donlon qualified for the state meet in the 100-yard backstroke with a winning time of 59.13 seconds.
He also captured the 50 freestyle in 23.76 and swam the leadoff leg on the 200 medley relay.
Sam Hurlburt, Matt Desimone and Hunter Bernabucci joined Donlon on that first-place medley (1:56.28). Bernabucci also swam anchor on the winning 200 free relay (1:41.98) behind Julio Hernandez, Alex Hernandez-Cruz and Joe Peralta.
Individually, Julio Hernandez won the 100 free (53.93) and Peralta brought home the 500 (5:37.05).
Jaylon Nixon’s score of 221.05 won diving.
Southington 54, Northwest Catholic 46: The Blue Knights notched the CCC West-Colonial Division victory in Southington to improve to 5-6. Northwest fell to 6-6.
Adam Hunter (14 points) and Jared Kelly (13) led Southington. Billy Wadolowski added eight points and Ryan Gesnaldo kicked in seven.
Matt Curtis of Northwest led all scorers with 19.
Amity 58, Cheshire 47: The Spartans pulled away to the SCC interdivisional victory in Woodbridge by outscoring the Rams 33-20 in the second half. Aidan Godfrey put up a game-high 25 points for Cheshire (4-6). Amity (7-4) was led by Tanner Thomas (20 points) and James Van Hise (15). Cole Wissink scored 9 of his points in the second half.
Shelton 64, Lyman Hall 41: Shakespeare Rodriguez and Lucas O’Reardon had 10 points apiece for the Trojans in this SCC interdivisional game Friday night in Shelton.
Brian Berritto scored a game-high 19 points as the Gaels evened up at 5-5. LH is 2-8.
Lyman Hall 50, North Haven 47: The Trojans held on for the SCC interdivisional victory on their home floor. LH held the lead much of the way, but North Haven closed with a 20-point quarter.
Brianna Mik led the Trojans (3-8) with 13 points and Kailey Lipka added 12. Lipka also had four steals.
Theresa Lynch (10 rebounds) and Hailey Bruneau (9) led LH on the glass. Bruneau also scored eight points. Eveani Okwuosa paced North Haven (5-7) with 12 points.
Shelton 40, Cheshire 29: The host Rams trimmed a 21-10 halftime deficit to 27-22 after three quarters before the Gaels put the SCC crossover away with a 13-7 fourth quarter.
Cheshire fell to 5-6 while Shelton evened up at 6-6.
Mackenzie Jaya’s 12 points for Shelton led all scorers. Maggie Howard added 11 for the Gaels.
Mia Juodaitis and Kaylee Clark had seven apiece for Cheshire.
Platt Tech 49, Wilcox Tech 27: The Panthers outscored the Indians 24-7 in the second half to pull away to the CTC triumph in Milford.
Kayla Ransom had another double-double for Wilcox, pulling down 16 rebounds to go with 10 points. Ellianna Pennyman scored a team-high 12 points for the Tribe (3-7, 3-3 CTC).
