MERIDEN — Caitlyn Hart twirled a two-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts for the Platt softball team in a 5-0 non-conference win at Wilcox Tech on Tuesday afternoon.
With the victory, the Panthers improved to 8-7 and clinched a CIAC Class L tournament berth.
Hart only allowed the two hits and one walk on Tuesday. She was also 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored at the dish.
Adriana Aponte was also 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Platt. Aponte also drove in a run.
Lauren Carabetta and Jaz Hudson added RBIs. Daniela Fuentes finished 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Briana Brown allowed five runs on 11 hits in defeat for Wilcox (14-4).
The game was actually the second of the day for the Indians. They opened the afternoon defeating Abbott Tech 10-8 at Cheney Tech.
Lyman Hall 6, East Haven 4: The Trojans offense pounded out 11 hits in a SCC crossover win over the Yellowjackets in East Haven.
Sydney Nilsen led the charge by going a perfect 4-for-4 with a double.
Alyssia Jones also doubled in going 2-for-3. Morgan Tuscano added two hits in four trips.
Alex Tenero went the distance in the win for LH. She allowed four runs on six hits. Two of those hits were home runs by Victoria Heapy.
The Trojans never trailed in the game and evened their record at 9-9. The Yellowjackets are 9-8.
Cheshire 16, Daniel Hand 7: The Cheshire offense pounded out 18 hits, including four home runs, in taming the Tigers in a SCC crossover win at home.
Mia Juodaitis blasted two dingers and Jade Barnes and Emma Watkinson connected on one apiece as the Rams upped their record to 15-3.
Juodaitis finished her monster day 4-for-5 with four RBI and four runs scored. Barnes (2-for-3) also drove in four runs.
Bri Pearson struck out eight to earn the pitching win and went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Lexie Hemstock and Lindsay Abramson both went 2-for-3 for Cheshire. Ari Perlini chipped in with a 2-for-5 effort.
The Tigers fell to 10-8.
Southington 9, Newington 8: Chrissy Marotto singled home the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to end Tuesday’s marathon CCC crossover game in Southington.
Sam Sullivan started the rally with a triple to center field.
This game featured 17 runs, 23 hits and 14 walks — 11 by Newington pitchers. Southington also stole 13 bases, led by Gianna Perugini’s three.
Nicole Greco hit a solo home run and finished 2-for-4 for Southington (12-3). Katie Gundersen tripled and also went 2-for-4 for the Lady Knights.
Marotto’s game-winner was her second hit and second RBI of the day.
