Jones, Rodgers lift Yard Goats

HARTFORD (AP) – Mylz Jones homered and singled, driving home two runs as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the Harrisburg Senators 6-3 on Friday. Brendan Rodgers doubled and singled, also stealing a base for Hartford.

Matt Pierpont struck Kelvin Gutierrez out with the bases loaded to end the game for his fourth save of the season.

Down 4-1 in the sixth, Harrisburg cut into the lead when Zach Collier and Osvaldo Abreu hit RBI singles.

Hartford answered in the bottom of the inning when Jones hit an RBI single, driving in Wes Rogers. The Yard Goats tacked on another run in the seventh when Garrett Hampson scored on a wild pitch.

Hartford starter Jesus Tinoco (2-1) picked up the win despite allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings.

Opposing starter Luis Reyes (0-2) took the loss in the Eastern League game after giving up five runs and seven hits over six innings.

Stranding 12 men on base, the Senators did not take advantage of some good scoring chances in the loss. For the Senators, Jacob Wilson homered and doubled.
