MONDAY SCHOLASTICS: Overtime win puts Southington girls lax at 3-0; Blue Knights & Rams pocket W’s; Foran pitches third straight shutout at Lyman Hall’s expense



NORTH HAVEN — Amy Chudy’s goal from eight meters out in overtime earned the Southington girls lacrosse team a 12-11 nonconference victory Monday over North Haven.

Chudy’s game-winner was her third goal of the night and it has the Lady Knights standing tall at 3-0.

Sarah Mafale led Southington with four goals and one assist. Talie Richardson scored two goals and set up a third.

Brooke Lynch, Emma Doran and Taylor Borla  added one goal apiece for Southington. Kate Barner notched two assists. Mackenzie Brown made 10 saves.

It was the second straight 12-11 loss for North Haven, which fell to 2-2 despite a game-high six goals from Annie Vyeki.

Boys lacrosse

Southington 14, Newington 9: The Blue Knights pulled away from the Indians behind seven goals from Evan Johanns. Southington improved to 2-1 with the CCC victory at home. Newington slid to 2-2.

Cheshire 12, Amity 0: The Rams improved to 3-1 with the SCC shutout of the Spartans (1-2) in Woodbridge. Brendan Grove made 13 saves in putting up the goose egg. Ben Wable and Brian Bouwman led the offense with four goals and two assists apiece.

Daniel Hand 21, Lyman Hall 5: The Tigers dropped the Trojans to 1-4 with the SCC victory in Wallingford. Hand, playing its first SCC game after splitting with Conard and Glastonbury of the CCC, improved to 2-1.

Baseball

Foran 6, Lyman Hall 0: The Lions posted their third straight shutout in blanking the Trojans in a SCC crossover game at Pat Wall Field. Richard Piscitelli was the winning pitcher. Jake Ranney suffered the loss for LH. Foran improved to 3-1. The Trojans slipped to 3-2.

Golf

Daniel Hand 153, Sheehan 195: The Tigers topped the Titans in a SCC match at The Farms.

Boys tennis

Platt Tech 6, Wilcox Tech 1: Eli Henry had the lone win for the Indians in the CTC match at Columbus Park. Henry defeated Tyler Bernard 8-5 in the No. 1 singles match. Wilcox Tech’s Eric Wasman and Platt Tech’s Jake Lopez had a good battle at No. 2 singles, with Lopez pulling out a 9-7 decision. The Indians, now 0-3, return to Columbus Park on Wednesday to host Lyman Hall.
