NEW HAVEN — Freshman Kelsey Burr of Wallingford notched her first collegiate goal for the Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer team during Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Saint Michael's.
Burr, the Record-Journal’s Girls Soccer Player of the Year for 2017-18 in her senior season at Sheehan, convereted a penalty kick in the 20th minute.
Burr and the Owls are 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference heading into Wednesday’s league tilt at cross-town rival New Haven.Chatman shines at hoop showcase
HAMDEN — Platt senior Martha Chatman was among the players named to the All-Tournament Team at Sunday’s 31st annual Northeast College Girls Basketball Showcase.
The event, staged by the Connecticut Starters at Hamden Hall, also saw Choate sophomore Indianna DelRocco land on the All-Tourney Team. The voting was done by college coaches in attendance.

Soccer kicks off Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Mountain Mist Outdoor Center. It is open to players ages 4-13.
Flag football, open to players ages 5-13, begins Monday, Sept. 17 at Ceppa Field. Volleyball, led by New England Shock coach Ron Sparks, plays at the YMCA starting Tuesday, Sept. 18.

SOUTHINGTON — Eight coaches and one media member will be inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame at the 42nd annual ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Aqua Turf.

MERIDEN — The 22nd annual Meriden Lions Club Golf Classic plays this Thursday at Tunxis Country Club in Farmington.
The tournament includes 18 holes of golf, lunch on the course and a banquet at the Aqua Turf in Southington. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Shotgun start is 11 a.m.
