AROUND THE HORN: DiamondZone advances to Wallingford Twilight finals; Jack Barry looks to wrap up City Series

WALLINGFORD — Riding the pitching of Brendan Clark, DiamondZone defeated Total Renovations 4-1 on Monday night to complete a two-game sweep in their best-of-three semifinal series in the Wallingford Twilight League.

DiamondZone advances to the finals to await the winner of Hunters and Downtown Merchants. Hunters holds a one-game lead in that semifinal series. Game 2 is Wednesday night at Pat Wall Field at 8 p.m.

Jack Barry on verge of city title

MERIDEN — Jack Barry Little League will look to complete a clean sweep of the City Series on Wednesday night at Ed Walsh.

Jack Barry, 2-0 for the tournament with wins over South Meriden and host Ed Walsh, just needs to win Wednesday to take the title. Ed Walsh, 1-1 for the City Series, needs to beat Jack Barry twice to wrest away the crown.

A winner-take-all Game 3, if necessary, will be played Thursday.

Hoop clinic returning to AMC

NEW HAVEN — Albertus Magnus College will host the 7th annual Nutmeg Basketball Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The one-day clinic features some of the top coaches in Connecticut, including Yale’s James Jones and Andrea Fallon-Korb, founder of Aspire Performance Coaching.

The clinic will be an on-court “X’s and O’s” presentation with live demonstrations. It is geared toward high school and junior high school coaches.

Registration fee is $125 per person, with discounts for multiple coaches from the same program. Visit nutmegstategames.org for details. Registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 21.
