MONDAY BASKETBALL: Sheehan girls fire past Fitch; Platt girls let lead slip away; Cheshire boys fall in opener

GROTON — The Sheehan girls basketball team closed the first quarter with a 22-point lead and steamrolled to a 70-24 non-conference win over Fitch on Monday night.

Senior Lexi Ocasio powered the Titans with a game-high 17 points. The freshman duo of Caitlyn Velez and Hayleigh Lagase scored 13 points apiece as the Titans improved to 2-1 on the season.

Junior Liv Robles and freshman Caitlyn Hunt logged six points apiece for Sheehan.

Fitch fell to 0-2. The Falcons will visit Sheehan on Dec. 27.

Tolland 39, Platt 28: After building a 20-15 lead by the break, the Panthers were held to eight points in the second half in this CCC interdivisional game in Tolland.

Julia Misner and Madison Chatman had eight points apiece for Platt (1-2). Kacie Gallichio scored a game-high 19 and Lauren Janston added 12 for the Eagles (2-1).

Boys basketball

West Haven 70, Cheshire 64: Matt Rosadino and Aidan Godfrey each scored 13 points to pace a balanced attack for the Rams in a SCC crossover loss in West Haven.

James Pettit (12 points), Eric Angelone (11), Ben DeLaubell (8) and Will Graikoski (7) provided the bulk of the scoring.

Cheshire, playing its season opener, trailed 42-27 at the half. Marquel Bookert (15 points) canned five treys to pace the Blue Devils.
