WALLINGFORD — Sheehan freshman Joey Zellner was the only Wallingford winner in a Sheehan/Lyman Hall double dual SCC swim meet with state power Fairfield Prep on Tuesday.
Zellner nabbed the 100-yard freestyle in 53.96.
“Joey was our highlight,” Sheehan coach Keith Cargan said. “He swam a great race.”
The Titans dropped to 0-3 on the season, but now move onto the SCC Division II portion of their schedule after crossing over against Division I programs. Sheehan returns to the pool next Tuesday, Jan. 9 at home against Branford/Guilford.
The Jesuits, last year’s Class LL runners-up, improved to 3-0 by defeating Lyman Hall/Coginchaug (111-61) and Sheehan (104-72). They were paced by Oliver Rus, the owner of two State Open championships as a junior. On Tuesday at Sheean, Rus won the 200 IM (2:00.12) and the 100 breaststroke (59.94).
Liam Colleran was also a double-winner for Prep. He took the 50 free (22.47) and the 100 backstroke (54.26.).
This was the Lyman Hall Co-op’s first meet of the season. Lyman Hall coach Donna Neary has 17 swimmers at her disposal, seven are from Coginchaug.
“We have a lot new people that did well for their first meet today and I’m happy,” Neary said.
The schedule doesn’t get easier for LH. The Trojans host Cheshire back at Sheehan on Thursday afternoon.
