WOLCOTT — The Sheehan girls volleyball team continued its postseason magic on Monday, fending off No. 11 Wolcott 3-2 in the first round of the CIAC Class M Tournament.
The Titans, seeded No. 22, won by game scores of 25-9, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25 and 15-7
Sheehan got solid contributions across the board. Carolyn Biel (13) and Samantha Iannone (11) both were in double digits for kills as setter Kari Dietle dished out 32 assists. Biel also got her hands on six digs, while Iannone served three aces.
Libero Emily Musso had 27 digs and also landed four aces.
Sheehan improved to 13-11.
Wilcox Tech 3, Kaynor Tech 0: The eight-seeded Indians turned back their CTC rivals from Waterbury 25-21, 25-9, 26-24 in a Class M first-round match in Meriden.
Setter Nicole Tiezzi filled the stat sheet with six aces, two blocks, three kills and 11 assists. Chloe LaBissoniere led the attack with six kills, also served six aces and had two blocks.
Karina Torres had eight digs and Yamileth Pebe dealt four aces. Haille Carroll and Carly Rich each chipped in at the net with two kills.
Wilcox (18-5) advances to the second round to host No. 9 Lewis Mills-Burlington on Wednesday. No. 25 Kaynor Tech finishes at 9-12.
Pomperaug 3, Platt 1: The No. 20 Panthers ended the season at 11-10 with the first-round Class L loss in Southbury to the No. 11 Panthers. Game scores were 25-15, 25-22, 14-25 and 25-13.
Pomperaug (14-5) advances to meet No. 4 Guilford in the second round.
Masuk 3, Maloney 0: In Monroe, the No. 11 Panthers chased the No. 22 Spartans from the first round of the Class L tourney with a 25-14, 25-9, 25-17 sweep.
Masuk (16-5) tangles with No. 6 Joel Barlow in the second round. Maloney, which got eight digs from Anna Hendrickson, closes out at 10-11.
