FRIDAY SCHOLASTICS: Sheehan girls lax heads to postseason on winning note; Southington sweeps; Cheshire & Maloney spikers deliver on Senior Night

WALLINGFORD — The Sheehan girls lacrosse team capped its regular season at 12-4 with a 12-4 non-conference victory over Windsor at Riccitelli Field on Friday afternoon.

The Titans scored seven goals in the first and five more in the second half.

Madi Gaynor led the way with three goals and an assist. Carlee Crispens, Allie Ottochian and Alexa Alchimio scored two goals apiece.

Crispens also had two assists. Her sister Mallory had three.

Sheehan’s other sisterly combination of goalkeepers Kaitlin and Mia Mills combined for 11 saves.

The Titans also got single goals from Molly Donegan, Amelia Mansfield and Kaylee Drobish.

Sheehan is right back in action Saturday evening. The Titans travel to Branford for the first round of the SCC Tournament.

Southington 11, Avon 7: Amy Chudy registered a hat trick and an assist as the Blue Knights collected a CCC crossover win in Avon.

Souhington (8-7) also had strong performances from Sarah Mafale (2 goals, 2 assists) and Emma Doran (2 goals, assist).

Taylor Borla scored one goal and set up another. Kayli Garcia, Talie Richardson and Karolina Kurzatkowska had one goal apiece.

Mackenzie Brown made 15 saves in net to knock Avon to 3-11.

Boys lacrosse

Southington 8, Amity 7: The Blue Knights improved to 9-5 with the non-conference triumph over the Spartans in Woodbridge.

Boys volleyball

Cheshire 3, Daniel Hand 1: The Rams overcame dropping the opening set to clinch the SCC regular-season title on Senior Night in Cheshire.

Cheshire, now on a seven-game winning streak, won by game scores of 22-25, 25-11, 25-16 and 25-13 to improve to 15-4.

The Rams were paced by Colby Hayes, who piled up 13 kills, six blocks, four assists and two digs.

Luke Pinciaro dished 36 assists while also posting two blocks and two kills.

Aidan Godfrey and Conor Guilford nailed eight kills each for Cheshire. Godfrey also gathered six digs. Berkley Fang served four aces and scooped five digs.

The Tigers fell to 10-7.

Maloney 3, NFA 1: The Spartans out-lasted the Wildcats 29-27, 20-25, 28-26, 25-22 on Senior Night at Maloney.

The Spartans put nine of their 10 seniors on the court. Only three-year starter Russell Lozowski, the team kills leader with 140, was out of action (concussion).

In his absence, Wijeury Collado collected nine kills and 22 digs.

Jaybril Pagan was all over the court proficing 30 assists, 23 digs and three kills.

Pagan spread out the offense. Michael Coitrone, like Collado, had nine kills to go along with three blocks. Greg Peruti put down a team-high 11 kills while also serving four aces.

Patrick Daley and Trevon Velez both had eight digs and two aces. Daley also delivered three kills and three blocks. Velez dished four assists.

Tyler Browne added nine digs and two kills, Hunter Bernabucci had a kill, Anthony Figueroa was 100 percent serving.
