SATURDAY SCHOLASTICS: Sheehan girls lax upsets Branford, advances to SCC semifinals

BRANFORD — Being a lower seed did not daunt the Sheehan girls lacrosse team on Saturday. Nor did it slow Sheehan’s winning ways.

The No. 6 Titans built a four-goal lead by halftime against No. 3 Branford, then steadily pulled away to a 16-7 upset of the Hornets on their home turf in the first round of the SCC Tournament.

The victory was the ninth straight for the 15-4 Titans and it puts them in Tuesday’s semifinals at No. 2 Guilford (14-1).

Cheshire, the No. 1 seed at 15-1, hosts No. 4 Daniel Hand in Tuesday’s other semifinal. Hand (9-8) beat No. 5 Sacred Heart Academy 17-8 on Saturday.
