TUESDAY SCHOLASTICS: Sheehan leads area athletes at SCC Girls Developmental; fourth-quarter push lifts Wilcox girls basketball



NEW HAVEN — Kyra Connolly and Sheehan teammate Erin Brennan went 1-2 in the pole vault to lead area performers at Tuesday’s SCC Girls Developmental indoor track meet at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

Connolly, who’s cleared a high of 9 feet, 6 inches so far this season, won on Tuesday at 9 feet even. Brennan took silver in a jump-off at 7 feet.

Olivia Dubuc also had a strong day for Sheehan. The junior was runner-up in the 600 meters (1:43.92) by less than a second and teamed with Clarisse Aminawung, Avery Winters and Julia Mansfield for a 3rd-place finish in the 4x400 relay (4:26.45).

Aminawung, Winters and Mansfield were also part of Sheehan’s 5th-place showing in the 1600 sprint medley. They teamed with Lizzie Brown on a time of 4:37.26.

Brown later placed 7th in the individual 1600 meters in 5:48.51.

Lyman Hall had a 7th-place effort in the 4x400. Carly Jacobs, Ryleigh Shortell, Sidney Nilson and Ayaka Tetrault combined on a 4:42.95.

Girls basketball

Wilcox Tech 34, O’Brien Tech 29: The Indians outscored the Condors 14-7 in the fourth quarter to pull out the CTC victory in Meriden.

Wilcox, trailing 9-7 at halftime, scored 27 points in the second half led by Elliana Pennyman, who deilvered 6 points and handled O’Brien Tech’s full-court pressure.

Kayla Ranson had a game-high 11 points for Wilcox (2-4), which hosts Platt tonight at 6 p.m.
