TRACK & FIELD: Sheehan girls sweep Amity & West Haven; Trojans & Cheshire boys earn SCC splits



WOODBRIDGE — The Sheehan girls track team took control of Tuesday’s SCC tri-meet with West Haven and host Amity behind multi-winners Lizzie Brown, Avery Winters, Clarisse Aminawung and Erin Brennan.

Brown logged 3½ miles on a cool, wet afternoon and no one could match her pace in three races. The sophomore won the 800 in 2:36.56, the 1600 in 5:50.57 and the 3200 in 12:26.01.

Winters won two sprints, the 200 (27.87) and 400 (1:03.40). The freshman later ran anchor behind Clarisse Aminawung, Patrice Mansfield and Katherine Cappetta on the first-place 4x400 relay (4:25.85).

Individiually, Aminawung won the 300 hurdles in 49.38.

Sheehan also did well in the field events, led by Brennan, who took the long jump (15-1) and triple jump (33-½). Kyra Connolly captured the pole vault (9-0), Darla Jagrosse won shot put (31-0) and Kelly Musante took the discus (83-10).

It added up to a sweep for the Lady Titans. They out-scored West Haven 118-32 and Amity 83-67.

The Sheehan boys split a SCC tri-meet with Amity and West Haven at Riccitelli Field. The Titans downed West Haven 104-46 and were defeated by Amity 107-43.

Max Luddy was a double-winner for the Titans. He won the long jump (20-3) and triple jump (38-3). 

Other winners for Sheehan were Jordan Davis in the javelin (139-0) and Cyle Martindale in shot put (45-1).

Cheshire: The Cheshire boys split a SCC tri-meet at Xavier, beating Fairfield Prep 90-47 and falling 91-50 to the host Falcons.

Jared Andrea swept the sprints for the Rams (1-3). He took the 100 in 11.1 seconds and the 200 in 24.1.

Also for Cheshire, Chris Blaze cleared nine feet to win pole vault. Sean Cangiano landed a 121-1 to take discus.

Lyman Hall: Both LH teams split SCC tri-meets with Career and host Shelton, topping the Panthers and falling to the Gaels.

The boys (3-1) got first-place performances in the throws. Qris Johnson took the shot put (41-6), Jeff Giamatti qualified for the state meet in discus (118-2) and the aptly named Cannon Marti went long in javelin (119-2).

The girls (2-2) took the 4x800 relay with the quartet of Carly Jacobs, Savannah Mangini, Velia Fagan and Emily Ottens. They qualified for the Class L meet with a time of 10:33.8.
