SCHOLASTICS: Sheehan, Lyman Hall hockey both earn wins


NORTHFORD – Senior captain Scott Bradley netted his second straight hat trick to lead the Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug hockey team to a 7-2 victory over Norwalk/Brien McMahon Saturday afternoon at the Northford Ice Pavilion in a Division III battle.

Kyle Roberts (2 assists) and T.J. Arduini each added two goal apiece for the Lyman Hall Co-op (3-2).

T.J. Isleib chipped in with a goal and two assists as LH pulled away early.

Andrew Sacco collected the win between the pipes, stopping 16 saves of 17 shots.

Sheehan 10, Trinity Catholic 3: Freshman Anthony Romano tallied a hat trick and added two assists to power the Titans to a one-sided win against a fellow DIII foe at Choate.

Romano’s twin brother Joe also had a monster game with two goals and four assists. Jake Festa also chipped in with two goals for the Titans, now 4-0. Sheehan’s depth was too much and wore down the visitors.

Sheehan goalie Tyler Robertson made 23 saves in net.

Trinity falls to 0-3.

Wethersfield/Middletown/Rocky Hill/Plainville Co-Op 2, Cheshire 1: The Rams absorbed their first loss of the season after winning their first three.

LorenzoOcone-Krause accounted for the lone goal for Cheshire at Newington Ice Arena. Jason McKInley and Ben O’Connor were credited with assists. Anthony Vignolamaded 19 saves in the pipes for the Rams.

WMRP improves to 1-3.


Southington 54, New Canaan 48, OT: The Blue Knights earned the Shelton Holiday Tournament title on Friday night and improved to 3-1 on the season.

The duo of Andrew Lohneiss (22 points) and Ryan Gesnaldo (14 points) was potent for the Blue Knights.

Alex Gibbens netted 22 points for the Rams (2-2).

Bristol Eastern 57, Platt 50: Tre Carter scored 25 points for the Panthers in a CCC crossover loss on the road.

Justin Radford added seven points for Platt (0-6).

Nate Silva led the Lancers (3-1) with 16 points.


Platt: The Panthers grappled to victories in three of four bouts and nabbed third place at the Southington Duals.

The Panthers (5-1) defeated Branford (44-22), Bristol Central (49-24) and Southside (60-18). They lost to Winchester (Mass.) 42-31.

James Rondini (113 pounds), Isaiah Ross (120), Zavian Arroyo (170), Ben Stratton (195) and Luke Fuerstenburg (285) were undefeated on the day. Jeremy Polanco (126), Damian Morris (145) and Ryan Greene (220) won three bouts apiece.

Stratton pinned all four of his foes, one in the first period and three in the second. Rondini won twice by fall, a 10-0 decision and a forfeit. Ross piled up 47 points in three decisions and won a fourth by forfeit. Arroyo won by fall, technical fall, decision and forfeit.

Southington: The Blue Knights finished second overall. Southington defeated Amity (60-17), Norwich Free Academy (55-21) and Bristol Central (59-17) before falling to eventual champs Winchester (Mass.). Southington and Winchester finished tied at 36, but the Knights lost on criteria.

Cheshire: Pat O'Donnell (152) and Troy LaRusso (120) both went 2-2 in the Southington Duals. Each had a pin.
