Summer Food Program


New Opportunities of Greater Meriden’s “Summer Food Program” partially disproves the theory, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” The service will operate 27 food distribution sites throughout the area this year.

New Opportunities’ Community Services Director, Larry Elliot said the program served over 55, 000 meals last year.

Sites serving breakfast and lunch include: City Park, Bunker Ave., 9 and 11:55 a.m.; The Mills, Cedar and Park, 8:55 a.m. and 12 p.m.; YMCA, 145 Main St., 8: and 11:05 a.m.; Tot Lot, Corner of Grove and Foster, 8:50 and 11:25 a.m.; Washington Park, 460 Liberty St., 9:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.; Roger Sherman, 64 N. Pearl St., 9:10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Chamberlain Hollis, 16 Hollis Drive, 8:45 and 11:20 a.m.; Brittannia Park, Britannia St., 9 a.m. and 12:05 p.m.; Bronson, Cook Ave., 8:30 and 11:25 a.m.; Hanover and S. First St., 240 Hanover St., 8:35 and 11 a.m. .

Lunch sites include: Barnside, 33 Wharton Brook Drive, Wallingford, 11:30 a.m.; Boys and Girls, 15 Lincoln St., 11:45 a.m.; Bradley II, Nutmeg Drive,11:10 a.m.; Ceppa Field, 83 Gale Ave., 12:30 a.m.; Chamberlain, Lourdes Court, 11:20 a.m.; Endee Park, Hobart St., 12:15 p.m.; Faith Center, 22 Crown St., 11:35 a.m.; Columbus Park, Lewis Ave., 11:30 a.m.; Johnson Farms, 24 New Cheshire Road, 11 a.m.; Salvation Army, 23 St. Casimir Drive, 11:40 a.m.; Scenic View Park, 36 Pleasant St., 11:40 a.m.; Gravel St., 120 Gravel St., 12:20 p.m.; Tracey Garden, 1043 Old Colony Road, 11:15 a.m.; Twiss and Miller, 12:10 a.m.; Yale Acres, 25 Gilbert Road, 12:25 p.m.

Supper sites include: Beat The Street, 121 S. Colony St., 5:30 p.m.; Maloney, 120 Gravel St., 5: 30 p.m.
