Local residents should prepare for a snowy commute Monday morning, but the storm itself should be “no big deal,” a meteorologist said Sunday.

Gary Lessor, meteorologist with Western Connecticut State University said that local towns can expect 2 to 4 inches of snow between around 6 and 9 a.m. Monday.

“This will be an easy storm, I wouldn’t expect most people would be too impressed with it,” Lessor said.

Temperatures Monday morning will hover around freezing making the snow heavier, but any precipitation should be over by mid- to late-afternoon, Lessor said.

“What’s really concerning me is another storm Tuesday night into Wednesday,” Lessor said.

This one could drop the liquid equivalent of 1 inch of snow, sleet, and freezing rain in the area, he said. By comparison, Monday’s storm will bring the liquid equivalent of only about a tenth of an inch of snow.

Lessor said this storm would break out sometime Tuesday night and continue into freezing rain Wednesday, when temperatures again will only get close to freezing.

“There will be a lot more energy coming with this one, people should be ready for it,” Lessor said, adding that it could make a mess of the Wednesday morning commute.

“This is our little early February thaw,” Lessor said of Sunday’s near-50 degree temperatures, “It should get colder and snowier this week.”
