CHESHIRE - U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy says he's introducing legislation that would allow nonpartisan groups to hold voter registration drives at federal veterans homes, hospitals and other veterans facilities.

The bill would allow groups to help veterans request absentee ballots and learn how to use voting machines.

In May registration drives were suspended to avoid disruption and because a law prohibits federal employees from engaging in political activities on government time. Connecticut officials have helped launch a nationwide initiative to overturn the rule.

Welcome to the discussion.
